Written by Scott Sowle
Earlier today I stated I wouldn't be posting a Top of 2011 List, but never said anything about 2012 mobile commerce predictions.
Where is mCommerce heading during 2012?
The following are my predictions for 2012 mCommerce:
NFC - Near Field Communications or NFC ready mobile devices give users the ability to share information with just a tap of devices. Google Wallet was one of the first to get rolling on this and expect more Android NFC applications for mWallets and coupons. You'll also see Apple get involved in the bump or tap mobile device commerce world during 2012.
Coupons - I mentioned this in #1 but it deserves it's own space as consumers spending increases they will rely on mobile coupons during 2012. The ability of businesses to email coupon bar codes, consumers will have no need to print or store. Consumers will walk in with their mobile device and the clerks will scan the bar code from their device. Very convenient!
Mobile Web - The move to the more diverse mobile web and with more mobile devices building in bar code readers in 2012 the use of QR codes will grow dramatically. Users will become more comfortable scanning the bar codes. Having a mobile compliant website will be vital in 2012. Tablets sales and use will continue to grow and staying in touch with these will increase for shoppers.
Social Media - Small businesses will gravitate to social media marketing in a attempt to develop a relationship with mobile devise owners. Mobile social media will bring consumers closer to small business and an opportunity to develop more personable relationships.
Video - Video has become mainstream for all but the mCommerce side. During 2012 you'll businesses using video in their mobile commerce to increase traffic and sales for services and products. Google is changing their search algorithms many times during the year and installing video on you mobile site and video will become a major player for search engines.
There you have it, my mobile commerce predictions for 2012.
